Extractions and Root Canals

teeth iconsWhen your tooth is experiencing severe pain or an infection, our Mt Gravatt East family dentist is your best line of defense. Thanks to our in-house endodontic services, we’re able to provide root canal treatments without referring you to another practice. This process saves your natural tooth while limiting out of pocket expenses on your overall oral health care needs.

Determining if You Need a Root Canal

In more cases than not, a root canal is your last option to preserve a tooth that has been affected by severe:

  • Fractures
  • Decay
  • Nerve damage (abscess)
  • Toothaches
  • Trauma

Rather than pull the tooth, we simply remove the diseased nerve inside of it and seal the chamber off. This allows your tooth to continue functioning, without the risk of a bacterial infection spreading to other teeth.

During endodontic therapy, our dentist will numb the tooth so that the procedure can be completed gently and efficiently. Having a root canal is more comfortable than you probably realised! By eliminating the cause of the discomfort, this treatment is your best option for effective pain relief.

After the root canal is completed, it will be necessary to have a crown made to protect the non-vital, brittle tooth that’s left behind.

Do You Need to Have a Tooth Pulled?

Unfortunately, some dental problems are so severe that the best way to eliminate them is to remove the tooth altogether. If that’s the case, an extraction can provide relatively quick relief for pain and infection. After the extraction site has healed, we’ll work with you to find an effective replacement solution such as a bridge or implant to fill in the open space.
